About Crystal

Dr. Crystal Trull, candidate for Trustee Area A in San Diego Unified, is a veteran educator, dedicated nonprofit leader, and proud wife and mother of 3 children who attend San Diego Unified Schools. She is a proven leader and a distinguished member of Clairemont. Crystal will bring the same leadership and passion to serving the students and families of Trustee Area A (Clairemont, Linda Vista, Mira Mesa, and Scripps Ranch), a place she grew up in, has lived in, and has served for more than 40 years.

Passionate about helping people and community organizations, Crystal honed her management and leadership skills as a nonprofit executive helping organizations strengthen and grow their programs and services to better serve their communities. She has worked with organizations such as The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties, HandsOn San Diego, and the San Diego Regional Clean Cities Coalition.

Crystal knows first-hand how a quality education makes a difference. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University and later a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of San Diego and finally a Doctorate Degree in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego. Crystal is an educator and teaches graduate students at the University of San Diego and at the University of California San Diego.

Crystal’s education has helped her serve our community. She previously served as a member of the Citizen’s Review Board on Police Practices for the City of San Diego, the Clairemont Town Council, and several nonprofit organizations. She has served on Parent Teacher Associations (PTA/PTSA) as well as on the School Site Councils (SSC) and School Governance Teams (SGT) at the elementary, middle, and high schools of her children. She has served as the Chair of the San Diego Unified School District Advisory Council on Compensatory Education (DAC) for the past two years which is the link between the district and more than 176 School Site Councils (SSC) across the district.

As a member of the Board of Education, Crystal is committed to putting families and students first: stopping out of control spending at the district, implementing proven programs that help improve outcomes for students, advocate for parents and children, ensuring transparency, and being accountable to taxpayers, parents, students and educators.
